Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier shared some insights on Guerrilla Games’ upcoming projects. He mentioned that the next big Horizon game, Horizon 3, might not be coming anytime soon.
Instead, Guerrilla focuses on an online multiplayer Horizon game, but Schreier isn’t sure how many fans are excited about that.
Guerrilla Games also has a remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn and a new Lego game called “Lego Horizon Adventures” in the works. Schreier raised some concerns, wondering what would happen if these projects don’t perform well. He questions whether Guerrilla would continue with the online game if people start losing interest in the Horizon series.

Sony’s recent efforts in live service gaming have had mixed results. On the positive side, the co-op shooter Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead, became the fastest-selling game ever from PlayStation Studios. However, Firewalk’s hero shooter Concord didn’t do well and ended up being one of the worst launches in PlayStation history.

The live service gaming market is tough for new games to succeed, as many players continue to stick with older, established titles. Concord’s failure followed another high-profile flop: Rocksteady’s game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which ended up losing about $200 million for its publisher, Warner Bros.
Sony has significantly scaled back its plans for live service games after making a big investment in the area. In November last year, Sony’s president, Hiroki Totoki, mentioned that the company was reviewing the 12 live service games they had in development. They decided to launch only six of them by the end of the financial year 2025. Shortly after, in December 2023, Naughty Dog announced the cancellation of “The Last of Us Online,” which was their attempt to create a live service version of the popular franchise, but it faced many challenges.

Guerrilla Games officially confirmed their long-rumored Horizon multiplayer game in December 2022, revealing through a job listing that it will feature a brand new cast of characters and a different art style. Alongside this, they’re also working on a full sequel to Horizon: Forbidden West, as they hinted at “Aloy’s next adventure” back in April. This new sequel will join the other major Horizon games, including the PlayStation VR2 spin-off, Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
However, Horizon 3 might still be far off. According to reporter Jason Schreier, Guerrilla’s main focus right now is on the Horizon Online project, not the third single-player game. Schreier also pointed out that Sony was heavily pushing live service games, but many of them either got canceled or failed after release, like Concord. Horizon Online is one of the few that’s still in development, and many people are working on it, but there are still questions about its future.
