The multiverse is about to get even more chaotic. Marvel Rivals, the fast-paced hero shooter we couldn’t stop playing last year, is leveling up again with its Season 2.5 mid-season update, and it’s packed.
From the arrival of the iconic Ultron to a new map dripping with lore, plus some wild new team-up combos (including one that literally creates a “Jeff-nado”), this update brings big changes to how you play, who you play, and how your team fights together.

Ultron Joins the Fight — As a Flying Healer?!
Yes, you read that right. Despite his reputation for world domination and being one of the Avengers’ biggest threats, Ultron is joining Marvel Rivals as a healer-class character.
But don’t let that fool you, he’s not your average medic.
Ultron is the first-ever flying healer in the game, putting him alongside aerial combatants like Human Torch and Iron Man.
He comes equipped with a powerful laser beam that ends in a damage burst, and more importantly, he can heal allies and grant shields, making him a mobile support powerhouse.
New Map: Welcome to Arakko
Season 2.5 also introduces a brand-new battleground: Arakko, a once-lush island now overrun by a twisted version of Ultron known as X-tron, who’s merged with Cerebro to reach new, terrifying heights.

The map is atmospheric, eerie, and designed to push teams into close-quarter, vertical skirmishes.
According to the devs, Arakko brings a fresh visual and tactical style that shakes up the usual flow of matches.

Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol
Launching June 6, a limited-time single-player mode called Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol will let players take control of Ultron’s drone army from above, directing a squad of AI-controlled heroes.
The goal? Battle through increasingly chaotic enemy waves while unlocking buffs and zany abilities.
The trailer teases giant-sized Venoms, turret-spawning Namors, and machine gun-wielding Helas, so expect some wild, over-the-top gameplay.

Team-Up Shakeups: Jeff-nado and More
Marvel Rivals’ team-up system, where characters can combine powers for ultimate synergy, is getting a major revamp.
Removed team-ups:
- Hawkeye & Black Widow
- Rocket & Punisher
- Luna Snow & Jeff
- Spider-Man, Venom & Peni
- Iron Man is removed from Hulk/Namor team-up
New team-ups added:
- Luna Snow & Hawkeye

- Jeff & Venom
- Punisher & Black Widow

- Iron Man & Ultron
These changes not only freshen up team strategies but also hint at deeper synergy between characters — both narratively and in battle.
Balance Changes: Buffs, Tweaks & Jeff 2.0
Plenty of heroes are getting tweaked in Season 2.5. Some highlights:
Buffed:
- Groot
- Captain America
- Emma Frost
- Iron Fist
- Human Torch
- Psylocke
- Doctor Strange
- Magneto
- Squirrel Girl
- Punisher
Adjusted:
- Jeff is getting a partial rework, with some of his abilities updated for a “fresh experience.”
These balance changes should help bring underused heroes back into the meta and refine some of the game’s more dominant picks.
Cosmetic Upgrades: Emojis, Moods & Portraits
Who doesn’t love some fresh flair? Players will now be able to:
- Use emojis mid-match to react or taunt
- Equip moods to their nameplates
- View Lord character portraits in the pre-match character select screen
It’s all about expression, and it’s another step toward making Marvel Rivals one of the most stylish hero shooters out there.
